hehe. first one someone called me dark moderator. (esp since I always have set that up as a joke )
Howto Hide any number of categories and there boards.
* go to
* Edit Member Groups
* make any number of "Extra groups:" and make sure to name em something good. like a 'approved' group. When done save by hitting the "edit member groups" button.
* If not in the admin menu, go to
* go to "Edit Category"
* click on a category you want to make "members only". If you have more, do them one at a time.
* tag every rank you want to be able to see the category. Normally these will be admins, moderators and special user groups. Do not bother to use the "posting rank" groups, acquired with postcount. (Junior member, Senior member etc are a nogo). Save by hitting the "Edit category" button
* make damn sure every board you want hidden is in one of these categories
- Last but not least, put any member you "want in" in one of these new extra groups, like your approved group

Thanks, Dark Moderator. Is there a section where I can find out how to join an account but not see anything? Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to make it so the admin approves accounts before the person can join? I am trying to limit the members to people of a single professional group.... I didn't want the information to be public.
Thanks for your help!
